
From January 1, 2013 visitors from 45 countries will be able to stay in Beijing for 3 days without a visa, announced by the Beijing Municipal Government in a press conference held on December 5, 2012.
Travelers holding third country visas and plane tickets can apply for a transit at the Beijing Capital International Airport, said Ji Lixia, assistant director of the Beijing General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection. Travelers also must register with police within 24 hours of arrival. Ji Lixia also mentioned that foreign visitors are not permitted to leave Beijing to other Chinese cities during the 72 hours, and have to depart from Beijing.
After the implementation of the new policy, Beijing will establish and improve the visa-free travelers’ airport service processes, tourist service schemes and further enrich the tourism facilities for foreign tourists, broaden visitors’ shopping channels to promote the development of the consumer market said Deputy director of the Beijing Tourism Development Committee spokesman Wang Yue.
